A large amount of people distinctly remember Ed McMahon handing out big check via Publishers Clearing House in the 80s/90s, which he apparently never did. He had some level of association with a similar company, but never did the door-to-door-big-check thing, which is odd considering high numbers of folks who remember ...American Family Publishers, where Ed did work, and Publishers Clearing House. AFP even made commercials joking on the fact that they were confused. It's also why Ed would say look for the envelope with my picture on it, so people would enter the AFP contest and not the competitors .The check clearly says "Publishers Clearing House" on it. ETA, Someone posted about this the other day and I immediately asked my brother cause he knows everything about pop culture.
