The plane crash is a uniquely good early loot spot for clothes. The best birch and coal spawns. Two 6-burner-stoves. Decent amount of cattails. HRV is a bitch to learn. Once you've explored the map (and learned the cheeses), the map feels fair and rewarding. Loot is far superior than airfield and feels guaranteed.

Post day 50 interloper, don't expect to see temps over -35 in FA even in the afternoon. The blizzards are tough there and last longer than in other regions, but multiple blizzards in a row is just bad RNG, gotta get that ...I find forsaken airfield as a tricky and hard region, however i think there is something that you are doing wrong.
